Live Performance / Echoing Dimensions
We did something really nice together last spring. The sound and media arts exhibition “Echoing Dimensions” was at Kunstraum Potsdamerstraße, and it was full house! Resonating with the idea of an “echo”, twelve Berlin-based artists came together in the below ground gallery space for a sound exhibition, focusing on an alternative topography of auditory life- the underground. The former multi-story car park became a multidimensional sonic playground for artists to investigate the notion of an “echo” with “intentional listening” by using sound, video and installation. By setting up the installations between shadows, wiring and debugging on cold and dusty floors, doing exhibition shifts covered in darkness and performing at DIY dusty stages, we tried to create an experience with the potentiality of sound as it reverberated through this underground landscape. Featuring 10 works from 12 artists across four UdK departments (KuM, VK, IfKik, D&C), alongside live performances from approximately 15 musicians/performers, the exhibition aimed to engage the audience in a generative relationship through voice and sound within an acoustical space rich with echoes, textures and shadows. In the end, it drew between 500-1K visitors into the depths of the underground in ten days.
Many thanks for visiting!
