Acoustic Mirror, 2024 / Kunstraum Potsdamerstraße

Kinetic sound installation
Raspberry Pi, dc motor, speaker, screen, aluminum, metal

“Acoustic Mirror” tracks and orients itself to the coordinates of conflicts from war zones in the globe via different NGO websites and transports distant sounds into the gallery. Influenced by 'acoustic mirror' technology which has been used as radar to detect approaching aircrafts during WWI, the installation invites the audience to listen to the acoustic environment created by the kinetic aluminium structure, which hosts a vibrant world of sounds and soundscapes from different geographical areas experiencing armed conflict. Along scanning the globe and diffusing sounds, the artwork explores our relationship to global events and questions what we should hear and be aware of by creating another "listening center" in gallery space influenced by early radars.
